Stage Four: Aspen to Beaver Creek

It’s always exciting when agency work intersects with personal interests usually reserved for lunch breaks, evenings, and weekends. For me, this is illustrated perfectly by CLM’s recent work with SpiderTech, a global company leading the way in simple, easy-to-apply kinesiology tape systems. SpiderTech sponsors and has a devoted fan base of world class athletes in a wide variety of sports. But what takes the cake for me is that SpiderTech is the title sponsor of Team SpiderTech, a professional cycling team based in Canada that races on the UCI circuit and even has legitimate ambitions to be invited to the Tour de France within the next several years.

This relationship recently granted me the opportunity to travel to a client meeting in Aspen, CO during the Pro Cycling Challenge, a 7-day stage race in Colorado that attracts top tier professional cycling teams and riders from across the globe. For fans of professional cycling, checking out the start of a stage in a race like this is like the average football-loving-American getting a front row seat and locker room pass at the Super Bowl. This is especially true because, unlike any other sport I know of, professional cycling races afford fans the opportunity to get up close with the top stars at their team buses pre- and post-race. In fact, after chatting it up with a couple of our local Boise guys affiliated with Team Exergy, I was able to meet and briefly chat with a long-time favorite rider, Jens Voigt, a legendary German bad-ass in the peloton. And that was only the tip of the iceberg. There was Chris Horner, Taylor Phinney, and American legend, George Hincapie. There was Team Garmin with Dave Zabriskie, Tom Danielson and race leader (eventual race winner), Christian Vande Velde. There was even a quick chance to pose for a picture with the infamous, goofball cycling commentator, Bob “Bobke” Roll.

So here’s to a long and fruitful relationship between SpiderTech and CLM and here’s to a Team SpiderTech invitation to the Tour de France in the coming years. Perhaps a client meeting on the Champs-Élysées will be in order!
